I encourage you to build a typicality for your business place and then probably a community around it but gradually.  The Blog Opening a Cafe ! I have news for you. Just a Coffee won’t do. Why don’t you go out and have more than just a coffee serving place. Everyone does that, so what makes you different from them? Trust me, how many customers can differentiate between the coffee you serve and what’s in the neighbourhood cafe is a very debatable topic. Most established brand names have their unique character and/or their defined customer base. Say, Barista is a workplace for professionals and same is with Third Wave, Starbucks is for people with their names o...

Why Franchises fail!

I have summarized the blog for you. Of course, you are invited to read the story and share your feedback.  Summary The blog discusses on my perspective on why franchise business in the F&B business does not live up to its worth. I list my reasons as being misrepresentative of the opportunity, making unreliable promises, a weak backend operations, and an execution apathy among control, vetting etc.  I put my point across that if improved, the very same faults can be a gift.  The Blog A couple of days ago I was sitting with one of my favorite client and we were working on bringing his iconic brand to the franchise front and building partners in good spirit. Between our discussion a question popped up. Many food business brands franchise and expand, yet most fail to build a reliable brand even in the local market. And within a couple of years, they just fall into oblivion. And he asked for my observations with regards to this aspect. And so I share my feedback with you a...

Embracing change is the only way to stay relevant and connected within the world of branding and...

F&B - driving expansion and growth

India's retail leasing landscape is undergoing a dynamic transformation, with changing consumer habits and generational preferences driving a significant shift in space uptake patterns. According to the latest report by Anarock Research, apparel and food & beverage (F&B) brands accounted for a dominant 54 per cent of total retail leasing in H1 2025 across the country’s top seven cities, absorbing over 2 million sq. ft. of net space. This remarkable figure underscores the growing dominance of lifestyle-centric categories in India’s modern retail ecosystems. Apparel alone, while still the largest segment, leased 33 per cent of the total area, while F&B occupied 21 per cent, marking a paradigm shift from traditional value-based retail to experience-driven consumption. Individually, the leasing share of F&B has grown from 8 per cent in FY19 to 12 per cent in FY25, and is projected to touch 16 per cent by FY30. This growth in F&B is part of a broader high-value consu...

The path to Profitability

The blog is basically a summarized version of my understanding of my work.  A Restaurant is an EXPERIENCE; a 'third place' away from home and work, where your customer is not just for food or drinks. My understanding of Profit Profit is the result of solid planning, sound management, and careful decision making. As a Restaurant business operator, I want you to make informed decisions with regard to managing your operation’s revenue and expenses. And with the correct tools that I use and support your business with, the potential for achieving profits you desire could be greatly enhanced. In fact, careful planning is a necessary basic to earn a respectable profit from the business. I believe that profit is a reward for providing service, not a leftover. Revenue (-) Desired Profit (=) Ideal Expense It is my belief at that every Restaurant should work with the following profit-oriented formula: Revenue (-) Expenses (=) Profit Profit should not be viewed as what is left over after t...

I share four driving factors for building a brand loyalty for your brand.  In the end, I mention as to what three factors tend to destroy the brand and how to be careful around them.    The Blog “I’ll be back.” Aren’t these some of the most beautiful words that you hear a customer says while leaving your Restaurant? If you start looking around, most people will tell you unequivocally that Brand Loyalty is dead. They may not be entirely wrong -- brand loyalty as your parents and grandparents were used to it might actually be dead. Loyalty is a two-sided relationship now. Customers are still loyal to brands however brand loyalty has just shifted to adapt to times. And your business needs to adapt to the times. What is Brand Loyalty? It is the tendency fo...

The new age of Franchising

I have summarized the blog for you. Of course, you are invited to read the story and share your feedback.  Summary In this blog, I announce the two primary franchise methods that I practice with my Brand clients to grow their brand. I list why they are my preferred ways and my dislike for the older method. The Blog The way we are so used to doing a franchise of a F&B business is changing. With new-age entrepreneurs and investors realising that a business has to be a fairer game, not one-sided, they are actively discarding the older ways of the ‘Traditional’ franchise model. No more is today's well-informed entrepreneur and investor interested in paying a high fee, build liabilities to promote other brand and then offer royalties as long as he does business without a shared support system. The market indicates that the age of glorified sale presentations and selling elaborate dreams of unlimited riches and fame are going-away. The way to F&B business is now via active and pa...
